Unemployed? Use Twitter to Find a Job.

In this day and age, you never know when you’re going to get that dreadful notice from your employer informing you that they’re doing cutbacks and you’re the latest victim.  If you’re like me, you know firsthand what that’s like and how unpleasant it is, especially with the lack of jobs for young college grads.  Fortunately, there are lots more ways these days to get your name out and one of the best ways is through Twitter.

If you still, for some odd reason haven’t heard about it, Twitter is the latest craze in online social networking.  Similar to Facebook status, the basic concept of Twitter is to keep your followers/friends up to date on what you’re doing in your daily routine.  However, anyone who knows anything about Twitter knows that it is a much more powerful tool for marketing and networking than just occasional status updates.  You can use your Twitter account to market your blog or product (like I’m doing, of course) or, if needed, to market yourself.  There are TONS of people on Twitter who specialize in helping you to get back on track.  Whether you need help with your resume, help with hunting for jobs, or help meeting people in your niche, Twitter is a great tool for unemployed grads.  For example, @onlineresume provides regular updates about major companies that are currently hiring.  Visit his website to get a lot of resume help.  Another Twitter user, @jasonalba, has a website that specializes in job search and networking tools. Of course, there are a handful of users too that provide blogs similar to ours, such as @jobsearch.  Check out http://search.twitter.com to search for other users.

Has Twitter done anything for you, other than giving you a place to rant?  Please share any unique ways that you might be using Twitter.
